New York Shopping

New York Shopping is my favourite topic. This city has a lot of offer when it comes to shopping. Whether it is shopping in NYC or at Woodbury Common Outlet Mall, Manhattan Mall, the Garment District any of the big New York City Department Stores, the Thrift Stores on the upper East side, luxury designer label shopping on 5th Avenue for clothing and jewellery, or down in bargain basement China Town for your knock off perfumes and handbags, Flowers, or baseball memorabilia, I love New York City and I love New York Shopping.

Tips for New York Shopping

A major fashion capital of the world, NYC is home to hundreds of stores offering trendy or designer clothes and luxury accessories in every variety and colour and trend.  Take time to decide what you want to purchase and plan to visit each shopping area in the city separately. Each area of New York Shopping offers much delight in sightseeing as well as actual purchasing.

Shopping for Bargain Hunters

The Garment District, also known as the Fashion District, and the designer sample sales offered in this area has to be your first port of call for any New York Shopping tour. There are many stores in this area offering discounts, wholesale women's clothing, men's apparel, leather wear, shoes and fabrics galore.  I once purchased a pair of shoes on 8th Avenue in Greenwhich Village on sale at $65. The same pair of shoes were available in the a Garment District store for only $10 a pair.

Designer Thrift Stores are awesome as many Manhattanesters wear their designer clothing once then give it to charity stores who sell them on for song.  The best ones are located within a few blocks of each other in the Upper East side of New York City.  On Saturday, get in early as they often offer deeper discounts.

China Town is the place to go to get your leatherwear, discount perfumes and sun glasses. Bargaining is the order of the day and the more you purchase the greater your bargaining power. I purchased 3 designer perfumes (the real deal) and was able to get my favorite CoCo Channel for $40 which was wholesaling just around the coroner for $80. A whole day in China town is a must for any New York Shopping experience.

Luxury New York Shopping

5th Avenue is the place for those of you who love to pay retail for the brand spanking new haute couture designer label apparel, leatherwear and accessories. Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodmans and Neiman Marcus offer many brands under one roof or simply wonder the streets and visit each fashion house separately. Even if you can't afford to make a purchase, Tiffany's is always a great place to visit and go browsing at the very expensive jewellery, crystal, and china.

Reserve several special days for shopping each of the different areas because, New York Shopping will encourage you to shop till you drop.  Wear sensible shoes and if it all gets too much for you to plan consider taking a shopping tour. Whatever area you focus on this city will not disappoint you and there is something for everyone when going New York Shopping.
